At Avo we believe people feel better and are more productive when they get time to rejuvenate. Each month you work at Avo you earn the obligation to take 2 days of paid-time off (PTO) in addition to your local official nation holidays. You have 1 year to use each batch of earned PTO.

We won't accept you not "needing a vacation". Please make sure to stay mentally healthy with an integrated work and life, by taking some time off regularly. If you think you don't need a vacation, or don't have a reason to take a vacation (no trip planned or whatever excuse you tell yourself) – please rethink that 💛

How to execute

1. Sync with your team and manager on timing.

As soon as you're considering time off, it's a good idea to add a tentative slot in the OOO project in Asana.

We care about outcomes not presence, at Avo. That said, sometimes it's important to be able to rely on your team members being there for you, or deliver something at a specific time – so some times are less convenient than others (large product releases, new team members joining, onsites/offsites, etc).

<aside> ⚠️ It is your responsibility to:

  1. Work with your manager & collaborators to confirm the most convenient time to check out
  2. Make sure your collaborators are never caught by surprise by your time off.

2. Prepare your team for your OOO

  1. Document your OOO time and preferences in the OOO project in Asana, ideally with at least 2w notice—especially if it’s more than 1-2 days or if it’s at a difficult time. (It's good to do this as soon as you're considering OOO, prefixed with a "?"):
  2. Add an “Out of office” event to your personal work Calendar. This is important so scheduling solutions like Calendly won’t book meetings in your calendars, e.g. our Onboarding 1:1s.
  3. Update your vacay & sick leave GSheet (and (US only) document in Gusto) shared with your manager and finance
  4. Mark yourself OOO on Asana
  5. Important customer facing: Prepare email auto-reply. Tell people how they might resolve their requests while you're away.
  6. Important customer facing: When you leave: Mark yourself as OOO on Slack (internal and community)

3. Work with your manager and finance to properly document

Each month you work at Avo you collect 2 days of paid-time off (PTO).

Please note your days off in the a Google Sheet shared with your manager and finance, in addition to the general guidance on how to keep the team informed.

Unused PTO does not pass on to the next calendar year (we want you to use this time to take a break). Avo follows governmental policy on accrued PTO days at the end of your contract, so depending on where you live we may pay your accrued PTO days at your final rate (the salary rate at the end of your time with Avo).
