At Avo we believe people feel better and are more productive when they get time to rejuvenate. Each month you work at Avo you earn the obligation to take 2 days of paid-time off (PTO) in addition to your local official nation holidays. You have 1 year to use each batch of earned PTO.

We won't accept you not "needing a vacation". Please make sure to stay mentally healthy with an integrated work and life, by taking some time off regularly.

COVID put a dent in how people vacation (mostly they just don't anymore). If you think you don't need a vacation, or don't have a reason to take a vacation (no trip planned or whatever excuse you tell yourself) – please rethink that 💛

How to execute

1. Sync with your team on timing.

As soon as you're considering time off, it's a good idea to add tentative slots in the Vacation Calendar and the OOO project in Asana.

We care about outcomes not presence, at Avo. That said, sometimes it's important to be able to rely on your team members being there for you, or deliver something at a specific time – so some times are less convenient than others (large product releases, new team members joining, etc).

<aside> ⚠️ It is your responsibility to:

  1. Work with your team and collaborators to figure out the most convenient time to check out
  2. Make sure your team and collaborators are never caught by surprise by your time off.

2. Prepare your team for your OOO

  1. Communicate your OOO time and preferences in the OOO project in Asana (it's good to do this as soon as you're considering OOO, prefixed with a "?"):
  2. Add a calendar item to the Vacation Calendar (it's a good idea to do this as soon as you're considering OOO, prefixed with a "?")
  3. Add an “Out of office” event to your personal work Calendar (this is important to mark you as unavailable in Calendly, which we for example use for Onboarding 1:1 scheduling)
  4. Update your vacay & sick leave Google Sheet accordingly
  5. Prepare an auto-reply on your email, telling the people who email you how they might resolve their requests since your away
  6. When you leave: Mark yourself as OOO on Slack (internal and community) and Asana

3. Work with your manager and finance to properly document

Each month you work at Avo you collect 2 days of paid-time off (PTO).

In a Google doc shared with their manager and finance, employees note down the amount of days used each time for an overview of days left each time, and notify finance.
